Save a Life With Your Old Phone

10th December 2020

I would like to share with you the work King IT and DV Safe Phone are doing to support victims of domestic violence. We know from our first-hand experience with our customers that the mobile phone is often one of the first items to be thrown, broken or stolen during domestic violence, leaving the victim cut off from the outside world, with no way to call emergency services or helplines for assistance.

We have partnered with IC3 Solutions, Red Rose Foundation and Domestic Violence Business Solutions to launch a campaign called DV Safe Phone www.dvsafephone.org, to get unused mobile phones out of people’s ‘bottom drawers’ and into the hands of victims of domestic violence.

Our campaign is aimed at collecting working phones, testing the phones for functionality, ensuring that all user data has been erased, and redistributing working mobile phones to victims of domestic violence, through registered not-for-profit charities such as the Red Rose Foundation, who have existing relationships with domestic violence agencies, safe houses, crisis centers, and volunteers Australia-wide. Check out this video to learn more.

It was recently reported that there has been a 75% increase in Google Searches for “Domestic Violence” since Covid-19 first hit our shores so this is something we would love your support to address. See more about that here 7 News Coronavirus Lockdown Results in 75% Increase in Domestic Violence Google Searches. Our work has been featured on ABC7 NewsThe Queensland Police Website, and Car Advice

We are seeking donations of old (working) mobile phones, and phone chargers from individuals and companies.

Our program helps in the following ways:

  1. It provides a “safe phone” to victims of domestic violence, to call for help in an emergency.
  2. It provides a Corporate Social Responsibility program like no other, with DV Safe Phone doing all the heavy lifting (all people need to do is drop into King IT with a working phone and we will do the rest)
  3. We can handle the security requirements around the disposal of old mobile devices. (We individually factory reset and test every phone and remove and destroy any removable SD cards that are still in the phones we receive.)
  4. We meet the environmental requirements around the disposal of old mobile devices (If we can’t use the phone due to age/damage, we will ensure it’s recycled through an official mobile phone recycling center)

Phones can be dropped into any King IT store. To find out more about the project ‘DV Safe Phone’ please visit https://www.dvsafephone.org
